Project Completion Assessment is the stage of the Agile project lifecycle in which the overall body of delivered work is evaluated against the project's original goals, accumulated learning, and realized value to determine whether the initiative has achieved a satisfactory outcome and to capture insights that will inform future work. Unlike traditional project closure, which often centers on verifying that a fixed scope has been delivered as specified, this assessment in an Agile context centers on evaluating whether sufficient value has been created relative to the evolving understanding of what value meant throughout the project's life, recognizing that the definition of "complete" itself may have shifted as the project progressed.
What Distinguishes Agile Completion Assessment
Completion as a Judgment About Value, Not Just Scope
Because Agile backlogs are continuously reprioritized and refined, the original scope defined at project kickoff is rarely identical to the scope actually delivered. Completion assessment therefore evaluates whether the delivered work achieves the intended outcomes and value, rather than simply checking off a static list of originally planned deliverables.
