Affinity Estimation is a rapid, largely silent technique for sizing a large batch of backlog items at once, in which team members physically or virtually place each item into a size grouping based on a quick visual or intuitive comparison against the other items already placed, deferring detailed discussion until the initial groupings are complete. Rather than estimating one item at a time through detailed discussion, as more deliberate techniques do, affinity estimation prioritizes speed and throughput, making it especially useful when a large number of items need at least a rough size assigned in a single session.
The Core Mechanic

The Estimation Process
